Business building blocks#
Part of the LDT Governance and Trust Framework — instantiates the iSHARE Data Space Template pillar Business Building Blocks (© iSHARE Foundation, see Legal notices).
Purpose#
How the data space creates and sustains value: purpose and thematic scope, financial sustainability, and the value shared among participants. The pillar connects data space offerings — the data, services and governance elements that enable participation — to the use cases they support. The template's framing matters here: the business model is a shared framework, not one owner's plan.
LDT instantiation — where we stand#
EUTwinLink is grant-funded until M18, so during the pilot the business question is not "how do we make money" but "what carries the LDT after the grant". Three things follow from that:
- The pilot's cost base (registry, ITB-S, Marketplace of the EU LDT Toolbox, twin operations) is covered by the LDT4SSC financial support; the blocks below must state what each cost becomes after M18.
- Value propositions differ sharply per role — cities (policy evidence), operators (efficiency), citizens (Commons benefit), commercial providers (marketplace revenue). The business model has to name all four rather than average them.
- Anything a partner wants to exploit commercially after the pilot must be visible now, in Data space offerings, because it drives licensing and the contractual framework.
